Alaska

  • Specimen Number

    49

  • Description
  • Blocky fragment of milky quartz, highly fractured with oxide stain in splaying fractures. Vugs and and apparent mineralization suggests the possibility of an ore-bearing hydrothermal vein. No suggestion of bedding, lamination, or intergrowths.

  • Classification

    Hydrothermal. Vein. Quartz.

  • Location & Occurrence

    Unknown.

  • Geologic Age

    Unknown.

  • Geoheritage

Alaska was admitted as the 49th state after the pavilion was built.  This specimen possibly links to the ore-bearing mining districts in southern Alaska. This is one of several vein quartz specimens in the collection, weakly suggesting it was collected by the original collector.
