  Irregular slab of silicified limestone with visible shell fragments. Orange rusty brown in color. Closeup shows voids (vugs) infilled with crystals, likely of quartz.

• Location & Occurrence

  Identified by Geological Survey of Florida as the Ocala Limestone, a silicified late Eocene limestone, likely from Alachua or Marion County.

• Geological Age

  Late Eocene

• Geoheritage

  Florida is composed nearly entirely of limestone, so it makes sense that the state exhibit rock would be limestone. It would be a challenge to collect anything else.
