State by State
New York
- Specimen Number
30
- Description
Broken slab of yellow rust-stained, buff-colored firmly cemented quartz sandstone (?) or quartzite (?). The grains are too strongly bonded to pry apart. Closeup clearly shows granular texture and purity.
- Classification
Sedimentary. Sandstone. Quartz arenite. An alternative classification is quartzite with a low grade. I can't differentiate these without a thin section.
