• Description

  Rough block of hard, pink sandstone, possibly an orthoquartzite, as identified by Utah survey staff.

• Classification

  Sedimentary. Clastic. Sandstone. Eolian.

• Location & Occurrence

  Plausibly the Navaho Sandstone Formation and  "probably from the Salt Lake area," according to survey staff.  "The prevailing color of the rock is light red and is surprisingly constant over large areas." This is the main prominent pink rock in Utah, an eolian formation within the Glen Canyon Group. Thickness up to to 2300 feet (700 m).

  If this is indeed, the Navajo Sandstone, it correlates with the Aztec Sandstone specimen from Nevada, documenting a vast sandy erg reportedly up to 2300 feet thick.
